Description:

This boutique for Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto sits on a narrow traingular site at the confluence of Gansevoort and West 13th Streets. In the renovation of the existing building, the architect split the building in two to create a pedestrian way connecting the two streets. The entrance is off this space.

The design is a simple composition of brick and glass, the latter apparently set into the former, as no mullions are visible and vertical joints are accomodated with silicone. A curve at the tip of the building (the previous footprint is visible in the paving) is the only other overt gesture in the design. Simple yet attention-getting is one way to describe the boutique, much like the clothes within.
