Architect:

Arthur Erickson and Mather and Haldenby

Completion:

1982

Description

Roy Thomson Hall, built with a budget of $52 million and updated with a $24 million interior renovation in 2002, is home to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. The Hall's website reports that Itzhak Perlman assisted with the original accessibility design for patrons and performers. Its musical offerings include classical music, jazz, pop and world music, and the hall is used by the Toronto International Film Festival. The curvilinear glass exterior of the concert hall reflects the variety of surrounding buildings, from the traditional Scottish church St. Andrews on the northeast to the new glass RBC Centre to the south. The building is offset from the street on the north by a reflecting pool (under renovation in October 2009).
