Description:
For about 200 years contemporary housing has aimed to combine social reform and architectural quality. So does the project 9=12 which was initiated by Adolf Krischanitz, who also designed the masterplan for the ten three-storey model houses. Nine German-speking Architects designed the houses which can be described as "urban villas". The main theme was to combine high-quality and low cost living with concrete, a material that does not enjoy a great reputation in Austria. Within these guidelines, the low budget and the claim to high architectural quality, the housing complex is rightly regarded as an example of contemporary, economically reasonable housing.
